How it fits your pond

Liner is the one component you cannot service later without draining the pond, so it is the wrong place to economise. EPDM stays flexible in cold weather and tolerates the UV exposure a shallow shelf gets. Underlayment underneath it is not optional in most soils — roots and stones will find a way through an unprotected liner eventually, and a second layer over the liner is cheap insurance where gravel is going in on top.
